About Mechatronics
Mechatronics includes mechanics, pneumatics, electronically controlled systems, programming, and robotics and systems development. It is the job of the mechatronics technician to combine these areas to design, build, maintain, and repair automated equipment, and programme equipment control systems. As well as factory assembly lines, mechatronics is used in everything from bottling machines to supermarket cash till and belt assemblies.
The Challenge
Competitors are required to:- Solve logic problems
- Carry out system design
- Assemble a machine according to documentation
- Design a programme for controlling a machine
- Connect a machine to its control system
- Commission the machine to carry out its correct function to solve a series of practical operational problems
- Interpret appropriate forms of technical documentation (e.g. circuits, displacement-step diagram)boxing, napkin folding and mise-en-place
- Design electrical and pneumatic circuits by hand or by using commercially available software
